Sheryl Crow to Auction Classic Car

Sheryl Crow will auction her classic Mercedes-Benz next month in an effort to raise funds for the tornado-ravaged city of Joplin, Missouri.
“After the tornado in Joplin, I was moved to help rebuild a city so close to where I grew up in Missouri,” Crow told USA Today. “My hope is that the auction of my 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster will bring in funds to help rebuild the schools in the area.”
According to USA Today, the 190 SL was completely restored in 2005 and features new brakes and suspension, a new black leather upholstery interior, and a reconditioned Becker Mexico radio with speaker.
Gooding & Company will auction the “iconic, grand-touring convertible” in Pebble Beach, California on August 21 where it is expected to bring up to $80,000.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Joplin Schools Recovery Fund, an organization dedicated to helping Joplin residents recover from last May’s devastating tornado. Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO) and its Joplin-based affiliate, the Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri, created the fund.”This is a very heartfelt donation to auction an item that has such special meaning to Sheryl and her family,” said Community Foundation of the Ozarks President Brian Fogle. “We very much appreciate how committed she is to her Missouri roots.”
