Gay Gamblers Get First LGBT Casino Nightclub

While drag shows and gay-oriented pool parties are prevalent in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, there hasn’t been a full-time gay bar inside of a U.S. casino… until now. The Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City has opened Prohibition, the first rainbow flag flying casino nightclub.
“I feel like I’m doing something that needs to be done, but it’s perfect because the right thing to do is the lucrative thing to do, too,” said Dennis C. Gomes, a former casino investigator who became co-owner and chief executive of Resorts last December.
The club fits right in with the hotel’s Roaring Twenties makeover, yet with a splash of South Beach. With spectacular shows, music, DJs, and special events, Prohibition is hoping to attract a younger, hipper audience to the casino.
Guests can book the Diva’s Room Package to stay in a deluxe Rendezvous Tower Room, which includes a 50-minute massage, dinner at Capriccio or Asian Spice restaurants, admission to the Diva show, and a complimentary drink.
“For a while, the Atlantic City market was 35 percent gays, 35 percent Canadians and the rest was New York. The market was here. There’s no reason it can’t come back,” said John J. Schultz, a former city councilman who once owned nine gay bars in Atlantic City.
